Woman reveals her suffering after boyfriend intentionally infected her with HIV

Kara Wilkinson had a relationship with undertaker Alan Mason - not realising he knew had been diagnosed as being HIV positive three years earlier.

A mother-of-three who was infected with the HIV virus by her boyfriend has gone public to reveal how he has ruined her life.

Kara Wilkinson, 42, had a relationship with undertaker Alan Mason, 45, - not realising he knew had been diagnosed as being HIV positive three years earlier.

She became ill while on holiday with him 18 months after they started dating and a blood test confirmed she was suffering from the same strain of HIV as Mason.

Miss Wilkinson only learnt the truth of how she contracted her illness when she confronted her boyfriend - and he broke down and confessed they had been having unprotected sex while he knowingly had the virus.

Since her diagnosis of HIV she has suffered four heart attacks, pneumonia, osteoporosis and severe hair loss.

Today. As Mason began two years and eight months behind bars, the former counsellor from Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria spoke of her ordeal and revealed she can no longer look at herself in the mirror.

"He's ruined my life," she said. "I'll never forgive him for what he's done.

"He should have been sent to prison for five years. And what's to stop him doing it to another woman when he gets out?. He's given me a life sentence of misery.

"Before I had HIV, I was never ill and had loads of energy. Now I seem to be permanently ill.
