A lady by the name Rose Adhiambo has been on the news recently after he arrested by the police and taken to court for trying to kill her husband.

Rose's Husband of a Mombasa base tycoon Polycarp Okumu aka kamili, seems to be a man with 'nine lives' as this is not the first time an attempt on his life has been made.

According to reports, the wife, together with her house help tried to kill him by poison some time back but the plans did not go well.

Rose was arrested trying to withdraw the 1.2 million shillings from the bank which she was going to pay the thugs.

Striking teachers to lose their jobs

The fate of the striking teachers now hangs in the balance after their employer advertised positions for 70,000 relief tutors.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) says it is recruiting 50,000 primary school teachers and 20,000 secondary school teachers on a three-month contract.

TSC announced the hiring in a paid-up advertisement to appear in the local dailies on Thursday.

The application deadline is Monday, October 5, and the teachers should apply through their county directors of education.

The contract teachers are expected to restore learning that has been paralysed for a month now due to the teachers’ strike.

“The teachers will be hired on a three-month contract and will thereafter be considered on a priority basis for employment on permanent terms when vacancies arise,” reads the letter by TSC’s chief executive officer, Nancy Macharia.
VACANCIES

According to TSC, the 70, 000 teachers will supplement around 45,000 others who are already on duty. Currently, there are 288,000 teachers employed by TSC.

School administrators — heads of institutions, their deputies and the senior teachers have been in schools as they usually do not take part in the strike.

The employer is looking for teachers who are below 45 years old, should be Kenyans and have original professional and academic certificates.

The applicants must also be registered as a teacher as per Section 23 of the Teachers Service Commission Act.

“All applicants, both Primary and Secondary should submit their applications together with certified copies of certificates, transcripts, testimonials and ID Card to the TSC County Directors of their respective home counties not later than 5th October, 2015,” says Ms Macharia.

Those applying for vacancies in primary schools are required to be holders of a P1 Certificate whereas applicants for vacancies in secondary schools must be holders of a minimum of a diploma in education certificate.

The TSC has advertised the vacancies according to the counties.

Successful applicants are asked not fill employment forms in more than one station as this will lead to disqualification.

Kenyans might be curious as to whether the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD’s) initiative to mobilise funds from the public and pay teachers will achieve any results.
Figures released by Safaricom reveals that as of Thursday, September 24 at  4 PM, the account had managed to raise slightly over KSh 8,000.

This is almost a day after the account was announced by CORD leader Raila Odinga, who said he had committed KSh 100,000 to the fund.
The opposition coalition’s co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka also said he had put KSh 100,000 to the account, which Kenyans were to contribute to it through mobile money.

But according to Safaricom and as quoted by Businessdaily, only KSh  108,276 has been raised so far. Contributions from Kenyan’s thus stand at KSh 8,276.
It thus means one of the CORD principals has not deposited his KSh 100,ooo towards the initiative.

Initiatives to raise cash in solidarity with certain calamities have previously managed to raise several million in the country but it remains to be seen if CORD’s initiative will achieve the target.

CORD announced the account while  holding a public rally at Uhuru Park on Wednesday, September to push the government into paying teachers to end the current education crisis.
According to available statistics, the government needs at least KSh 5.5 billion to pay teachers salaries in just one month, translating to KSh 66 billion a year.
Teachers have been on strike since the beginning of September as they push the government to implement a court order that awarded them a 50-60% salary increment.

Nairobi, Kenya: A section of Nairobians were thrilled by five American planes on a reconnaissance mission that made trips around the city before landing and taking off from Kenyatta University Grounds. The five, which included a chopper and four Boeing V-22 Osprey aircraft, first hovered over Nairobi before landing at KU grounds causing panic.

Officials said the pilots were on a drill and reconnaissance missions ahead of the arrival of the US president and his team on Friday. After landing, some students rushed to the field and took the photos before sharing them on social media. The green chopper and the four Osprey aircrafts later flew back to the Old JKIA airport where they were parked to wait for the arrival of the president.

Making her submission to the ICC’s Trial
Chamber V(b) judges, Bensouda said  in
January 2013,  she met Raila Odinga in London,
who assured her that he will hand over all the
relevant documents once he became the
President of Kenya.
“Unfortunately the former PM lost badly to
President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy,
William Ruto, and that is why I am
experiencing problems,” Bensouda told the
judges.
Bensouda, who is a Gambian national, also
urged the court to adjourn Uhuru Kenyatta’s
trial indefinitely until the Kenyan Government
cooperates fully with the ICC.
Currently, Bensouda has no evidence to send
Uhuru Kenyatta to trial on October 7 and it still
remains unclear whether the ICC judges will
adjourn the case.
