The Lady Behind Safaricom's "Mteja Wa Nambari Hapatikani" Voice

Most of us have used Safaricom mobile network for years, in fact there are some who have had their numbers for over 10 years and still going strong, but we most likely never pay attention to those litle things like who is behind the voices am listening to of even the name of that customer service person you talk to when you have an issue.

I must admit, one of the most annoying things is getting that "Samahani, mteja wa nambari uliopiga hapatikani kwa sasa' (Sorry, the mobile subscriber cannot be reached) thing.

The voice is great yes but the fact you cant find the person you want to talk to is the part we all don't like.

After all those years we can finally put a real face to that beautiful voice we hear almost every day. Her name is Ms Maggie Wazome and she is currently a support analyst at Safaricom’s customer care department.

“When my friends are introducing me to a group of people, they want everyone to know that I am the ‘mteja’ lady. So if the person being told does not believe me, I have to repeat the line. I have done it a thousand times,” she said.

“The best part is, I sometimes hear myself when I’m calling someone,” she added amid laughter.

“It feels a bit awkward but, you know, I guess I’m just proud to know that I present a message; a message of umepatikana ama hujapatikana (you are reachable or not). That’s what it is.”

Maggie says it hasn't been easy to reach where she is now. Even getting picked to record the voice was not a walk in the park.

Caroline Mutoko hits back at columnist on 'fat shaming' article

Blogger Njoki Chege has been the topic of conversation for the past few days from Twitter to plus-size fabulosity fashionista, Neomi Ng’ang’a, throwing their opinions at her.

Her ‘Fat women, let’s tackle the elephant in the room’ article has drawn enough attention including Caroline Mutoko’s who has not taken this seating down.
The mother of one aired her views to the columnist by telling her to worry about her life and leave other people to worry about theirs.
I know I am fat. If you cared so much about my life and what I look like and how I got this way you would have been there to hold my hand as I disintegrated into a thousand pieces after losing not one but two children”, she said before adding that she chooses not to be miserable but thank God for his mercies.
The former radio host went on to condemn fat shaming and that the likes of ‘Njoki Chege’ were taught no respect by their parents and should not hate fat people for a living.
Caroline advised her to do soul searching and a check with Dr Frank Njenga is imperative so he can diagnose why ‘Njoki Cheges’ are such nasty human beings.

One FM’s Naomi Ng’ang’a Takes A Jab At Njoki Chege

Daily Nation’s controversial columnist, Njoki Chege recently attacked ‘fat’ women mercilessly in her Saturday’s  article dubbed ‘’ Fat Women, Lets Tackle This Elephant In The Room .’’
Njoki Chege had nothing to hide when she claimed that plus size women are fat because they are lethargic and gluttonous.
Naomi Ng’ang’a who is affected directly since she is plus size decided to respond to her. Here is what she wrote:
SAVE THE ELEPHANTS: MY TAKE ON NJOKI CHEGE'S ARTICLE "Fat Women, Let's Tackle This Elephant in the Room" The thing i have come to realize about Njoki Chege is that she has an ability to intertwine truth with insult and make two things that have no relation with each other appear to have relation. The danger of such writing prowess being given a platform as powerful as a national article, is it shapes opinion. Insult and attack on something one has no biological control over should never be given the chance to shape opinion and promotes streotyping. Biology is at play here. Size 8 women do not constitute the epitome of healthiness. This is the thing, you can be size 8 and out of shape. You can have high cholestrol, be exposed to health issues at that size. So while its true that bad eating habits are dangerous, it is not true that this is unique to plus size women. The article is senseless. I'm immensely disappointed. There are many families suffering, people struggling with self esteem issues, and rather than resolve this, she chooses to attack. There is no room for a plus size woman to be healthy and whole? Some of us can never be size 8, does that doom us? Chege should take into account the already steep plight of the woman to be accepted as enough with the immense pressure that already come from society to look, dress, walk, and talk a certain way. Its about time she started being more sensitive towards peoples needs in her writing. It may require more creativity than bashing but in sure it would take her writing to the next level and help her think a little more. And hopefully become a better person.

Chelsea offer Mourinho 'vote of confidence

Chelsea have offered manager Jose Mourinho and his squad a vote of confidence following their 3-1 defeat at home to Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Blues claimed the Premier League title last season but have won just two of their first eight games of the 2015-16 campaign and sit 16th in the table.

Mourinho insisted after the defeat to Southampton that he would only walk away from Chelsea if the players no longer trusted him, and the club has released a statement offering their public backing to the Portuguese.

The statement reads: "The club wants to make it clear that Jose continues to have our full support.

"As Jose has said himself, results have not been good enough and the team's performances must improve. However, we believe that we have the right manager to turn this season around and that he has the squad with which to do it."
Prior to the defeat to Southampton, Mourinho described Chelsea's slump as the worst period of his career.

But the Chelsea boss displayed his defiance in the face of criticism following the shock loss at Stamford Bridge.

"If the club sacks me, they sack the best manager this club had," he told reporters. "And secondly, the message is again the message of bad results. The manager is guilty. This is the message, not just these players, the other ones before, they got [the message] during a decade.

"This is a moment for everybody to assume their responsibilities. To stick together. This is what I want.

DONT EXPECT PAY RAISE!!! TEACHER TOLD.

The kenyan Government has reiterated that the 50-60 per cent pay increase for the teachers is unsustainable even after the they called off their five-week strike.
Speaking on the matter, the Deputy President William Ruto, teachers should instead go back to teaching and let the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) do its work.
"SRC is a constitutional body with responsibility and mandate to harmonize salaries of all Government employees from the President to an office messenger. The stand of the Government is to respect recommendations of SRC," The deputy president said.
Speaking during a fundraiser in Nandi County Ruto added that all public employees were awarded their salaries accordingly regardless of the department in which they work.
"We aspire as the Government to ensure all civil servants get their due remuneration in an equitable manner. A degree holder in the education sector should get equal pay to an engineer having the same qualifications," he said.
Last Saturday, teachers terminated their industrial action for 90 days in respect to the ruling made by the court. However, Kenya National Union of Teachers' Secretary General Wilson Sossion mentioned that they would resume their strike if the government failed to implement their pay rise.

Teachers union also demanded that the Teachers Service Commission and the Government withdraw the cases they had against them in regard to the pay row

Blogger Njoki Chege under fire for allegedly insulting fat women

Njoki Chege is trending, again. This time, she has published an article targeting fat women and as expected this has rubbed some Kenyans the wrong way.
Her latest article Fat women, let’s tackle this elephant in the room has received backlash from Kenyans on twitter who claim that she has insulted the “Plus-size” women.

In the article published in a local website, the blogger has come out strongly criticizing fat women for their ‘laziness’:  Let me tell you why you are fat. You are fat because of your laziness and glutton, part of the text reads.
Known for her bold, blunt artices , Chege has accused fat women of using their weight as a defence so they can be excused from the truth.
Kenyans were quick to respond:  While many are of the opinion that her article is insensitive towards fat women, others feel that she has just hit the nail right on the head and she should keep ‘em coming.
Here are few of responses on Twitter
Sammie Keige ‏@SammieKeig e Am 100% Certain That Njoki Chege in real life gets no attention from guys coz of being skinny!... African men need some meat. Get a life.
FIELD MARSHAL 1963 ‏@KiKimathi53 "@muchekelouis: Over 80kgs women are calling Njoki Chege for a meeting at Uhuru park. They just wanna talk"
Vulnerability in women isn't appreciated by Njoki Chege's article at all. What you do is you don't allow anyone to dictate who you are.
Leon Lidigu ‏@LeonLidigu  The fat lazy Nairobi women are in trouble. My Comrade Njoki Chege has just made my day !
StEaLtH mOdE ‏@KenyanSanta  Slim ladies leo have something to "raise" their ego. Thanks to Njoki Chege but the fact remains us African men still prefer thick ladies.Magunga ‏@theMagunga  I am waiting for the day Njoki Chege will talk about teeth.

Akon explains why he passed on signing Drake

In a recent interview with Canadian website Montreality, Akon explained why he refused to sign Drake when he had the chance to do so.
Grammy-nominated singer Akon is known for having spotted Lady Gaga’s talent by signing her to his KonLive label. But back in 2008, the producer could have also signed Drake. Read his side of the story :
“I honestly did pass on him because at the time, he didn’t sound like what he sounded like today,” Akon says. “The ‘Best I Ever Had,’ it wasn’t even close to what that sounded like. I think he was at a position where he was finding himself. And I kind of heard it in the music, but ultimately, as time goes, people develop [and] they get better and they become the best because of things like that. Sometimes that motivates you to want to be better and take yourself to the next level. I think with him—he was turned around so many times to where it became more of his motivation. And that’s what it’s supposed to do, you supposed to take every situation and make the best out of it. Don’t take it to a position where you think people are hating or people don’t wanna rock with you like that. It’s just creating an environment for you to be stronger and make yourself better at what it is that you do. That’s the whole idea and I think that’s what it was.
